Today, the world announced major news — no, not Jay-Z and Beyoncé's trip to St. Barts with Blue Ivy. Other news. Like Facebook's $1 billion acquisition of Instagram. Maybe you've heard of the photo-sharing device that has taken the universe by storm? CEO Kevin Systrom will take home a hefty $400 million, with the rest divided by stakeholders and a venture capital firm. Instagram's 13 employees will each get a portion of a nearly $100 million pool. Not a bad day's work.
In even more Instagram news, OnSugar now allows you to automatically post your Instagram photos directly to your personal OnSugar blog! Click away and make your blog that much cooler and that much more personalized. We're offering plenty of help to get you set up, so don't hesitate to start uploading your coolest snaps.
Hey Mark Zuckerberg, if you're looking to acquire the hippest blogging platform out there, we here at OnSugar would take a meeting with you. In the meantime, we'll keep adding amazing features — and playing the Mega Millions.
Stay tuned for another major announcement coming from OnSugar in just a few days! We're about to release our latest functionality and make you a blogger on the go. Facebook, who?
If you've been following our Twitter
accounts, you'll know that we've been working on an easy way to add sharing widgets to your site.
After a few weeks of rigorous testing, you'll be thrilled to hear that they're now available! If you're using a featured OnSugar theme, the sharing widgets will be automatically turned on. (You can easily turn them off in your blog settings.)
Note: If you're using your own theme, there's a just a few simple pieces of code that you will need to add.
To find out all the details, check out our Sharing Widgets FAQ.
A few weeks ago, our development team surprised us with an awesome Facebook upgrade. Instead of automatically posting a boring link, OnSugar now posts engaging parts of your content. Your friends can see gallery excerpts, photo thumbnails, audio files and more. Here's an example of a gallery posted to Facebook:
And here's what a regular post with a photo looks like:
As you can see, it's much fancier. So set up your Facebook updates and watch as your friends start clicking through.
Don't know how to make your OnSugar blog automatically update your Facebook status? Find out how: full instructions after the jump
Last week our OnSugar developers rolled out another way to integrate your OnSugar activity with your Facebook account. You can already update your status when you post a new story, but now you can update your status when you leave a comment too! To do so, just check the "Post this comment to my Facebook feed" box right below the comment box. When you click post, it will post your comment and automatically update your Facebook status. Now all of your Facebook pals can see what you have to say.
Note: This feature is only available on blogs with unmapped domains (domains that still contain onsugar.com in their url).
When our pal Eppie22 started posting her OnSugar posts to her Facebook account, we all thought it was great, but admitted that we were too lazy to do the same. To remedy our laziness, our dev team came up with two new great features. Now you can automatically update either your Facebook or your Twitter statuses whenever you post something to OnSugar.
To do so, just click on "Edit Profile" in the drop down menu on the top. Once there you can click on the Facebook or Twitter icons and fill in your information. In just a few short clicks, whenever you create a new post on OnSugar, you'll create a status update on Facebook or Twitter.
