New Feature: Hide or Feature a Post

Last week our dev team surprised us with a cool new feature. Under the "Advanced Options" section of your post (below the text area and above the save button), you now have two more ways to control your homepage.

The first option is called "Homepage" and it determines whether or not your post shows up in the main area of news. It is checked by default, meaning that every post will show up on your homepage. If you uncheck the box, your post will not show up in the regular place, and you will need to link to it in order for folks to find it. Some reasons for doing this might be a thank you page, a poll you want to link to from navigation, creating galleries or other content you'd like to call out on a tag page but not publish in your river of news, among other things.

The second option is called "Feature" and it will make a post stay at the top of your homepage. Some of you might know this as "sticky," and it is not-checked by default. Checking this box will push your post to the top of everything. A good use for this would be to promote contest you're running, or news you want to make sure everyone sees.

So unchecking from homepage also means that it will not be in categories, but acts as a cooler page?

it will still show up in category and tag pages (you could just not give it categories or tags) and it will still show up in the search, archives and widgets (such as latest headlines, popular posts, and latest comments). mainly this is just to keep the post off of the main "stream" of posts. hope that makes sense.
